Truco Championship - Anglo-Argentine Society
Truco Championship to be played on Thursday 19th March 2009
We are pleased to announce that the 2009 championship will take place at El Gaucho restaurant at Chelsea Farmers Market, 125 Sydney Street, Chelsea, London SW3 with Championship Director Mr Roberto Jellinek officiating. The evening will include a knock-out tournament starting as from 6.30pm (all play under way by 7.00pm) and is open to all levels of players, from beginners to the more experienced. All usual rules apply, including hand signals!
To play in the tournament or simply come as an observer (yes, they are welcome as well), the cost will be £18.00 for Members of the Society and £25.00 for non-members. This price will include one empanada or one chorizo and bife con papas fritas, but does not include drinks; drinks will be at reasonable prices provided by El Gaucho. Traditionally these tournaments have been lively events with lots of good humoured social interchange – this evening promises to be the same. Come and join us for a great evening playing this, the most traditional of Argentine card games.
Please make your booking in advance so that the Tournament can be organised properly and the catering supplied in an appropriate manner. Please state if you wish to be paired up with a specific partner, or if you wish to be allocated a partner by the Championship Director. When making your reservation please send your cheque payable to “Anglo-Argentine Society”.

BRITISH PIONEERS IN ARGENTINA
A talk by Gordon Bridger at the Argentine Embassy (65 Brook Street) on 16th April 2009 at 6:30pm, followed by a glass of Argentine wine and the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Gordon Bridger’s book on the subject.
Gordon Bridger was born and brought up in Argentina. He studied at the London School of Economics and Manchester University. He worked for the United Nations and the British Ministry of Overseas Development in a number of countries in Africa, Australasia, and South America.
On retiring he entered local politics in Guilford, becoming mayor in 2003. He is the author of three books including “How I Failed to Save the World” (or Forty Years of Foreign Aid) which was published last year.

Se abre a partir de febrero del 2009 nuevamente los encuentros en el Cafe Buenos Aires Greenwich cerca del Mercado de Greenwich 86 Royal Hill SE10.
Ya desde 2006 empece con los encuentros y los continuo la idea es juntarnos y con un cafe de por medio y empanadas conocernos y compartir experiencias. Solo tenes que venir el 4 to domingo de cada mes a las 2 de la tarde aproximadamete solo/a soltero/a casado/a con hijos o sin - y cuando escuchas hablar encastellano te unis..........,
Hay mucha gente que no se acerca por verguenza esa es la idea romper la verguenza y venir.

Si bien todos sabemos que esta noche se produce un cambio de horario en Argentina, quedando una diferencia con UK de solo 3 horas, los canales que transmiten River vs Boca todavia siguen indicando en su programacion que comienza a las 8.20 hora de UK.
Para que no haya problemas, caras largas, ni malos entendidos, les recomiendo que vayan una hora antes.
De ultima, cerveza de por medio, la hora se pasa rapidito hastas que comience el partido. O para hacer tiempo tambien nos vamos todos a sacar unas fotos a la estatua de Eros, con las camisetas bosteras y gallinaseas y alguna que otra bandera.
